In the Tulip, or hinged, Liverpool bit, the upper arm with the cheekpiece connection is hinged. The curb chain attachment sits a little lower than usual on a loop attached to the upper arm. Pressure is not distributed to the poll due to the moving upper arm, and so this bit can be severe. Careful consideration before use is recommended.
